But some people can offer you more profound

and compelling lessons than others.

Do You Have Time - To Think?

An investment banker stood at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked.
.
Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The banker complimented the fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The fisherman replied, "Only a little while."

The banker then asked why didn’t he stay out longer and catch more fish?

The fisherman said he had enough to support his family’s immediate needs.

The banker then asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?"

The fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar with my amigos.
.
I have a full and busy life, señor."

The investor scoffed, "I am an Ivy League MBA and could help you have a better life.
.
You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat. With the proceeds from the bigger boat, you could buy several boats, and eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats."

The investor continued, "And instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would then sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery.
.
You would control the product, processing, and distribution!
.
You can leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then Los Angeles and eventually New York City, where you will run your expanding enterprise."

The fisherman asked, "But how long will this all take, señor?"

To which the banker replied, "Perhaps 15 to 20 years."

"But what then?" asked the fisherman.

The banker laughed and said, "That’s the best part!
.
When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich. You would make millions!"

"Millions. Okay, then what?" wondered the fisherman.

To which the investment banker replied, "Then you would retire.
.
You could move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siestas with your wife, and stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos."

The fisherman, still smiling, looked up and said, "Isn't that what I'm doing right now, señor?"

The only thing more expensive than education is ignorance.

In or Out

They drew a circle that shut me out,
.

Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout!
.

But love and I had the wit to win,
.

We drew a circle that took them in.

The Truth Is...

Caveat lector: some viewers may regard this notion brazen.

.

There are some people who live in a dream world.
.
And there are some who face reality.
.
Then there are those who turn one into the other.

Looking For Happiness?

Everybody seeks happiness.

Although it is not often noticed that seeking itself is precisely the activity that veils the very happiness that is being sought.

When it is seen clearly that happiness is not to be found in any particular object, state or circumstance, a deep relaxation takes place.

This relaxation leaves us at the threshold of another possibility.

This possibility is felt as an invitation from an unknown and yet strangely familiar direction.

It is a call to return to our true home...

... the source of happiness.

A Reason, A Season or A Lifetime?

People come into your life...
... for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
.
When you know which one it is,
you will know what to do for that person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty,
to provide you with guidance and support.

. To aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.

. They may seem like a godsend.
And they are.

. They are there for the reason you need them to be.
..
. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part
or at an inconvenient time,

. This person will say or do something
to bring the relationship to an end.
.
Sometimes they die.

Sometimes they walk away.

Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.

What we must realise is that our need has been met,
our desire fulfilled, their work is done.

The prayer you sent up has been answered
and now it is time to move on.

. Some people come into your life for a SEASON,
because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.

They bring you an experience of peace
or make you laugh.

They may teach you something you have never done.
.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.

Believe it, it is real.

But only for a season.

.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons.
.
Things you must build upon
in order to have a solid emotional foundation.

. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person.
.
And put what you have learned to use
in all other relationships and areas of your life.
.
.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.
.
Thank you for being a part of my life,

. Whether you were a reason, a season or a lifetime.

The Deepest, Longest Meditation

To live content with small means;
to seek elegance rather than luxury,
and refinement rather than fashion.
.
To be worthy, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly;
to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages,
with open heart.
.
To bear all cheerfully;
to do all bravely;
to await occasions, hurry never.

In a word:
.
To let the spiritual,
unbidden and unconscious,
grow up through the common.
